About The Position

The Coordinator of MTSS-A (Academics) supports the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports for Academics (MTSS-A). This role focuses on strengthening Tier 1 core instruction, ensuring effective Tier 2 and 3 academic interventions, and building school and district capacity to use data to improve student achievement. Working in close collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer, Executive Directors, Chiefs of Schools, and school-based teams, the Coordinator ensures academic MTSS systems are coherent, standards-aligned, and responsive to the needs of all learners. The role emphasizes prevention, early identification, and targeted support to improve literacy, numeracy, and content-area outcomes. The MTSS Coordinator will develop and implement district-wide systems and protocols for MTSS along with strategically planning for MTSS implementation and providing ongoing, engaging professional development.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Ten (10) years of appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience (preferred), with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.
  • NYS Certification for a School District Administrator (SDL / SDA).
  • Evidence of or demonstration of the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of literacy and numeracy development and current best practice research base.
  • Understanding of MTSS and tiered academic support frameworks, including NYS Commissioner of Education Regulations regarding AIS, RtI, and MTSS-I.
  • Expertise in standards-based instruction and intervention.
  • Use of data strategically to inform instructional improvement.
  • Diplomacy and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues.
  • Superior written and oral communications.
  • Program and project planning, development and management.
  • Technology proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of district MTSS guidance documents, tools, and protocols.
  • Select or develop and maintain MTSS data dashboards, intervention platforms, and reporting structures.
  • Support district-wide implementation of the MTSS-A framework aligned to academic priorities.
  • Assist schools in strengthening Tier 1 core instruction across content areas.
  • Guide implementation and monitoring of Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic interventions.
  • Ensure alignment between MTSS-A, curriculum, and assessment systems.
  • Support universal screening processes and early academic warning systems.
  • Assist schools in analyzing academic data to identify students needing support.
  • Monitor fidelity of intervention implementation and progress monitoring practices.
  • Provide data-informed recommendations to academic leadership.
  • Collaborate with Executive Directors and Chiefs of Schools to align supports.
  • Facilitate problem-solving meetings focused on academic outcomes.
  • Build school capacity to implement evidence-based academic interventions.
  • Design and deliver professional learning related to MTSS-A, intervention, and data use.
  • Support principals and instructional leaders in MTSS-A implementation.
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to school-based MTSS teams.
  • Develop tools and resources to support instructional staff.
  • Support cross-functional training with Special Education, ENL, and curriculum teams.
  • Monitor equity of access to interventions and advanced learning opportunities.
  • Identify trends in academic performance across student groups.
  • Support district efforts to close achievement gaps through tiered academic supports.
  • Participate in evaluation and refinement of MTSS-A practices.
  • Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.
