Position Overview: The GT Coordinator collaborates with staff and administration to oversee the identification, support, and programming of gifted and talented students across K–12. This role focuses on compliance with state and district requirements, meaningful engagement with students’ strengths and interests, and leadership in professional learning to support differentiated instruction through Problem Based Learning (PBL).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Colorado teaching license with Gifted Education Endorsement
  • Strong understanding of gifted and talented education principles and Colorado GT identification processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Problem Based Learning and differentiated instruction
  • Experience using digital platforms including Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Google Suite
  • Five (5) years of contracted teaching experience, preferably in more than one education level. | Required
  • Three (3) years of contracted experience in curriculum/programming for Gifted & Talented students. | Required
  • CO Principal Licensure - Colorado Department of Education
  • Endorsement - Gifted Education - Colorado Department of Education
  • Master's Degree: Education (Required)
  • Master's Degree: Gifted and Talented Education (Required)
  • Ability to use general office equipment

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the K–12 identification process for gifted and talented students in accordance with Colorado’s Exceptional Student Education Act and DCSD requirements.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and annual updates of Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) for all identified gifted students, including strength-based and affective goals.
  • Collaborate with K–8 classroom teachers to enrich, differentiate, and extend curriculum and instruction that supports both academic and affective growth for GT students.
  • Monitor and report student progress toward ALP goals, ensuring alignment with district timelines and state expectations.
  • Serve as a resource and instructional coach for faculty regarding best practices in gifted education and Problem Based Learning.
  • Facilitate professional development sessions and parent education nights to increase understanding of GT programming and differentiation strategies.
  • Promote a supportive and inclusive school climate that recognizes and addresses the needs of gifted learners.
  • Participate in all required DCSD trainings and compliance activities related to gifted education.
  • Support efforts to build awareness and implementation of differentiated instruction through problem-based and inquiry-driven learning models.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support student success and program integrity.
  • Serve as liaison to district stakeholders, constituents, and Colorado Department of Education, regarding gifted education initiatives, supporting accountability and monitoring processes.
  • Advise, mentor, and support district and building staff on meeting the unique needs of gifted learners.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Team to design and implement professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators to support the needs of gifted learners.
  • Collaborate with district leaders to perform long-range planning strategies to include budget preparation, monitoring, and staffing needs.
  • Maintain program documentation and records necessary for local and state compliance requirements and audits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Develop, prepare, monitor, and maintain documentation for federal/state reporting.
  • Perform or assist in supervisory activities: hire/mentor/discipline; staffing design; professional development activities; evaluations; terminations.
