About The Position

The Wellness Education and Health Promotion Program at Lehman College is committed to fostering a culture of health and well-being through the development of evidence and theory-based programs and activities that empower the campus community to manage their health and make healthy decisions. Wellness Education invites applicants for the Coordinator for Alcohol, and Other Drug (AOD) Prevention. This is a full-time, grant-funded position funded by the Partnership for Success (PFS) grant from NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS). The Coordinator for AOD Prevention will be responsible for implementing evidence-based strategies to address substance misuse in our community and for managing the Lehman Prevention Collaborative (LPC), a multi-disciplinary coalition comprised of campus and community stakeholders to address issues of alcohol misuse in the Kingsbridge Heights and Bedford Park Blvd communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, or another related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in alcohol and other drug prevention or a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based environmental strategies and SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate alcohol and other drug prevention strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, collaboration, consensus-building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment and develop culturally relevant programming.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, or another related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience working in alcohol and other drug prevention.
  • Experience with leading a coalition.
  • Experience with outreach to various stakeholders with differing interests, especially in a diverse, urban community.
  • Experience with grant management.
  • Candidate should have strong ties to the Bronx and/or Kingsbridge Heights/Bedford Park Blvd Community

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an evidence-based AOD prevention plan for the Bedford Park Blvd and Kingsbridge Heights communities.
  • Utilize contemporary research and data to address issues of substance misuse in the community.
  • Co-Chair the LPC, a multidisciplinary coalition of campus and community stakeholders, in developing and implementing environmental change strategies to address alcohol and substance misuse.
  • Serve as a liaison and resource for the community in addressing issues of alcohol and other drug misuse, including collaborating with relevant community leaders and organizations as needed.
  • Incorporate a culturally relevant lens to the prevention efforts of the LPC.
  • Build the capacity of the LPC through sustained community outreach and engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Manage all grant deliverables for the PFS, including but not limited to monthly report completion, budget management, and implementation of environmental change strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
