About The Position

The Coordinator for AANHPISI Affairs supports the mission and strategic initiatives of the Office for AANHPISI Affairs & APIDA Center within the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity at San Diego State University. Reporting to the Executive Director for AANHPISI Affairs, this position advances student success, outreach, and inclusion initiatives serving Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students. In this role, the Coordinator will: Provide coordinated care academic advising and expand the caseload of student advisees. Develop and support academic success initiatives, including tutoring, mentoring, and intervention programs. Lead and implement community college outreach efforts to increase enrollment, yield, and retention of underserved student populations. Design and coordinate culturally responsive leadership and career preparedness programming in collaboration with Career Services. Support CSU AANHPI Student Achievement Program (ASAP) initiatives, including data collection, reporting, marketing, and campus-wide programming. This position plays a key role in enhancing academic achievement, leadership development, belonging, persistence, and graduation outcomes for AANHPISI students.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
  • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
  • A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Demonstrated successful professional experience in a post-baccalaureate setting, reflecting reliability, accountability, and strong performance.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality when responding to sensitive or complex situations.
  • Experience assessing, designing, implementing, and evaluating programs and policies, including coordinating multiple concurrent initiatives effectively and independently.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail, follow-through, and the ability to manage ongoing projects with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of and experience supporting diverse student populations, including advising or mentoring students who identify as Asian American and Pacific Islander and familiarity with related histories and contemporary issues.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and adaptability, including openness to feedback, flexibility with evolving priorities, and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate academic success initiatives, including advising, academic interventions, data tracking, and program assessment.
  • Develop and implement community college outreach strategies to strengthen recruitment pipelines and increase enrollment of underserved student populations.
  • Design and support culturally responsive leadership and career development programs.
  • Support CSU ASAP-funded programs through data management, reporting, outreach, and student engagement efforts.
  • Assist with operational functions of the Office for AANHPISI Affairs & APIDA Center, including representation, programming, and strategic initiative support.
