About The Position

Facilitates student engagement through hands-on outdoor learning opportunities. Increases capacity of the school farm to provide students with the necessary skills to support living plants and animals and cultivate value in the process of growing their own food. Ensures maintenance of farm environment, gardens and animals, ensuring that the farm site is safe and receives the care it needs in order to thrive.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One or more years of experience working in an outdoor education setting and developing learning opportunitites for school aged children.

Responsibilities

  • Leads weekly groups of students through gardening and animal skills while they care for the school animals, garden and farm.
  • Plans and facilitates engaging activities and lessons that help students internalize key concepts around animal husbandry, plant growth, plant cultivation and food development and enable them to practice key skills related to the care of the garden and animals.
  • Coordinates with school stakeholders (e.g., the student support team, autism center instructor, core class teachers) to ensure students are meeting school expectations and accessing the content.
  • Monitors, supervises, coordinates and enforces rules of conduct and behavior of groups while on site, ensuring safety of students and animals.
  • Provides care for animals (e.g. goats, rabbits, bees, chickens, etc.), ensuring enclosures are secure and clean and that animals are routinely watered, fed and healthy.
  • Ensures gardens are maintained and thrive from planting to harvest to distribution; builds or installs new infrastructure and repairs systems when necessary.
  • Buys or obtains related materials using the school's van and purchasing systems.
  • Develops connections with neighborhood resources.
  • May guide or coordinate the work of farm assistants or volunteers, as required.

  • Salary Range. $42,602-$51,123 annually (depending on experience).
