Major Duties Under general supervision, the Coordinator, EOP and College Advising Services supports a broad range of academic advisement and student success initiatives that strengthen the College of Humanities (COH) experience for both EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) and non-EOP students. The incumbent engages deeply in student outreach, holistic support services, transition monitoring, and collaborative programming that enhances retention and timely graduation. The Coordinator also contributes to first-year advisement planning, facilitates communication between college partners, and represents the Student Services Center (SSC)/EOP at key university events. Through proactive student engagement and consistent coordination with campus stakeholders, the role ensures students receive accurate guidance, meaningful support, and seamless access to resources. Serves as a member of a team that delivers a wide range of services, including individual and group advisement to all new and continuing students in the COH, and provides specialized services to EOP students. Coordinates activities related to monitoring EOP student transition and academic progress, including, but not limited to, follow-up with students and responses to faculty alerts. Assists the Director of College Advising and Student Service Professional (SSP) IV with the coordination, planning, and implementation of the first-year advisement for all incoming first-time freshmen and transfers. Represents the SSC/EOP satellite and COH at on and off-campus events, recruitment activities, and on university committees. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field.
  • Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive academic advisement in both individual and group settings, including specialized support for EOP students.
  • Strong skills in reviewing complex student cases, interpreting academic policies, and formulating sound recommendations that promote retention and timely graduation.
  • Ability to accurately assess student needs, resolve issues, and ensure appropriate referrals to campus resources.
  • Ability to design and facilitate activities that monitor student transition and academic progress, including effective follow-up and responsiveness to faculty alerts.
  • Skilled in maintaining detailed caseload records, documenting student interactions, and communicating clearly with diverse student populations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage ongoing student support activities while adhering to University processes and requirements.
  • Strong ability to monitor EOP student transition and academic progress through consistent follow-up and timely responses to faculty alerts.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing individualized student success plans for high-concern students.
  • Ability to represent the college at EOP events and support participation in EOP admission and transitional programs.
  • Skilled in providing accurate updates to ensure mandated services are delivered.
  • Ability to support coordination and implementation of first-year advisement for incoming freshmen and transfers, contributing to smooth and effective onboarding experiences.
  • Skilled in assisting with oversight of the freshman advisement cycle, offering training and guidance to advising staff, and ensuring advisement accuracy and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated capacity to identify needs and recommend improvements to first-year programming.

Nice To Haves

  • Upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related, is preferred.
