About The Position

The Coordinator-Assessment, under the direction of the Director of Special Services Accountability & Assessment, is responsible for ensuring the district maintains compliance with the statutory requirements of IDEA and the state accountability systems including Results Driven Accountability and department compliance initiatives. The Coordinator-Assessment must possess a clear understanding of the relationship between the development, implementation, monitoring and instructional impact of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), the Full and individualized Evaluation (FIE), supplementary aids/supports and Assessments for students receiving special education services. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of teaching experience in special education or commensurate experience
  • Educational Diagnostician Certification, Specialist in School Psychology License or Speech and Language Pathologist License
  • Extensive knowledge of current federal, state, local laws and regulations for students receiving special services.
  • Extensive knowledge of IDEA, Child Find, Special Education eligibility categories and critical timelines
  • Knowledgeable of research and evidence-based practices emphasizing culturally appropriate assessment techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of cross battery assessment and current assessment processes, tools, batteries and applications for SLPs, SLPAs, LSSPs, Assistive Technology and Educational Diagnostician evaluators.
  • Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Response to Intervention and Positive Behavioral Interventions
  • Knowledge of assessments in the areas of dyslexia
  • Ability to coordinate services across district functions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of supervisory leadership experience in the field of special education
  • Administrative experience at a campus and/or district level

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP), Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), Speech and Language Pathology Assistants (SLPA), Educational Diagnostician staff and Assistive Technology Staff.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements in all areas of the assessment of students in all IDEA categories.
  • Develop, monitor and provide immediate feedback and corrective actions regarding State Performance Plans, Initial Timelines and Child Find processes under Special Education.
  • Develop and conduct staff growth and development activities for Educational Diagnosticians, SLPs, SLPA, Assistive technology staff and LSSPs.
  • Audit records and subsequently provide training in the evaluation processes, including theoretical and statistical concepts of standardized tests, informal test procedures, observation techniques and competency level systems.
  • Participate in professional and community activities which will improve services in the areas of appraisal, diagnosis, prevention and/or intervention methods related to learning and behavior problems.
  • Provide direct supervision to evaluators and assigned clerical staff.
  • Train staff, teachers, and campus administrators in providing for the needs of students served in special education.
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems to enable and establish a plan for improvement.
  • Respond and conduct monthly documented training, coaching sessions and/or guidance for staff in regards to noted compliance issues.
  • Initiate communication and provide specific data to the Director of Special Services- Assessment and Accountability surrounding IEP compliance status and updates.
  • Assist in the completion of all assigned local, state and federal reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of statutes and federal statutes surrounding evaluation practices, ethical standards, legal frameworks and the Individualized Education Program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
