About The Position

The Cooperative Education Student – Load Forecasting is an entry-level learning opportunity designed for students pursuing a degree in data science, economics, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or a related field. Working under the guidance of experienced analysts, the Co-Op will support the team’s efforts in electric load forecasting, data analysis, and Member services. This role offers hands-on exposure to applied analytics, forecasting models, and the energy utility industry. The Co-Op will contribute to tasks such as data preparation, validation, and exploratory analysis that feed into Seminole’s short- and long-term load forecasting. The position is structured to provide mentorship, skill-building, and a meaningful introduction to utility analytics and planning.

Requirements

  • Candidate is required to be working towards a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Completed coursework in statistics, data analysis, and/or programming (e.g., Excel, Python, SAS, or R) is strongly preferred.
  • Co-op students are expected to be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester, maintain a 2.75 GPA, and work approximately 20 hours a week.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in gathering, cleaning, and analyzing load, weather, and economic data.
  • Support the maintenance of datasets and forecasting inputs for Seminole and the nine Member cooperatives.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and produce visualizations using Excel and other tools.
  • Document work processes and learn how forecasts contribute to broader utility planning efforts.
  • Participate in internal meetings and trainings to learn about utility load forecasting and rate analysis.
  • Respond to basic data requests under supervision and with guidance from full-time staff.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve forecasting inputs or model outputs as time and skill allow.
  • Perform other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
  • NERC Compliance: Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM.
