About The Position

Tomball Retirement Center is seeking an experienced Cook to prepare high-quality, resident-centered meals. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-volume kitchen and understands health-care dining standards , including therapeutic diets and texture modifications.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of high-volume cooking experience (required).
  • ServSafe Food Handler (or ability to obtain shortly after hire); Manager certification a plus.
  • Strong knife skills, recipe execution, and time management; reliable and team-oriented.
  • Able to stand/walk most of the shift and safely lift/push/pull up to ~40–50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Senior living/health care food service experience preferred (dietary standards & modifications).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve dinner service and evening meals/snacks to standards for taste, presentation, temperature, and timeliness.
  • Execute specialized/therapeutic diets (e.g., diabetic, cardiac, renal, low-sodium) and texture modifications (mechanical soft, minced & moist, puréed, thickened liquids).
  • Batch cook, portion, and label according to menu, diet cards, and production sheets.
  • Maintain a clean, safe kitchen: follow HACCP, FIFO, and sanitation/temperature logs; complete opening/closing side work.
  • Collaborate with the Dietary Manager/Clinical team to support resident preferences, allergies, and care plans.
  • Assist with ordering, inventory, and receiving; minimize waste and control costs.
  • Provide friendly, professional service to residents, families, and teammates.
