The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. This is skilled work in preparing/cooking a major portion or all a meal in a commercial kitchen. This position is usually responsible for preparing an entrée, starch, or vegetable for Breakfast, Lunch, and/or Supper meal. Cooks are responsible for all consistency modifications required including thickening products, chopping, mincing and pureeing food and beverage items to medically prescribed consistencies. Other responsibilities may include baking breads, cakes, and other dessert items; preparing special catered meals or party foods; processing foods for meal substitutions; and preparing special medically prescribed dietary meals, etc. Work is performed in accordance with recipes and quantities of ingredients provided for each meal. This work requires skill in determining cooking times for various food items in order to complete all portions of the meal at the prescribed serving times. ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events. Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area.
