POSITION SUMMARY The Cook/Support Staff, plans, budgets, prepares, cooks, and serves a variety of cafeteria style meals for all children and staff. Additionally, this position supports classrooms by assisting in implementing developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s development and ensure health and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or High School Equivalency Test (GED/HiSET) or 2 years of experience and/or formal training in cafeteria operations and/or safety and sanitation regulations relative to food service operations.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must provide proof of valid driver’s licenses and proof of personal valid vehicle insurance
  • Medical exam and TB Assessment is required prior to hire and again every 5 years
  • Background screening to include fingerprinting is required prior to hire and again every 5 years

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience and/or formal training in cafeteria operations and/or safety and sanitation regulations relative to food service operations
  • Knowledge of UKG platform, Child Plus, MO kitchen sanitation regulations, Head Start Performance standard

Responsibilities

  • Plan menus in conjunction with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Lead Cook monthly to
  • Provide daily United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) CACFP approved nutritional meals
  • Determine meal prices based on calculations of ingredients and costs to prepare
  • Estimate quantities needed ensure appropriate quantities for attendance
  • Order groceries and shop for groceries based on most economical choices
  • Receive, stock, and rotate groceries and supplies
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals adhering to recipes and nutritional and sanitation guidelines
  • Operate a variety of standard kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Document and submit documentation of food usage and expenditures to CACFP Lead Cook according based on established deadlines
  • Appropriately store foods according to CACFP and Sanitation guidelines
  • Maintain a clean, safe kitchen, adhering to sanitation regulations
  • Inspect and clean equipment and utensils, requisitioning equipment and materials as needed
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings, including but not limited to USDA CACFP trainings
  • Utilizes UKG Ready system to clock in and out and transfer time correctly; submitting change requests if needed
  • Adjusts and makes appropriate accommodations for children/staff with food allergies or other special needs related to foods/nutrition
  • Completes training as stated by CHS policy HRD-P-022 – Training
  • Responsible for promoting a positive Safety Culture is expected and necessary to make CHS a safe place in which to work. Safe work practices and policies for this position shall be reviewed and strictly followed.
  • Demonstrates respect for the capabilities, backgrounds and cultural differences of families, children, co-workers, and the public consistent with trauma informed practices
  • Assists in implementing a routine of developmentally appropriate activities which support children’s social, physical, cognitive, ATL and language development
  • Helps maintain ratios while providing coverage in the classroom
  • Assists in implementing a developmentally appropriate early childhood program, consistent with accreditation and performance standards
  • Helps prepare materials and classrooms for early care and learning
  • Supports general task such as but not limited to laundry and common area cleaning
  • Support general childcare task for evening parent meeting and policy council meetings
