The Cook Lead is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations within their assigned station while actively preparing food in accordance with established recipes, quality standards, and food safety regulations. This role serves as a working leader, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and execution of culinary standards while supporting, guiding, and training line cooks and kitchen staff. The Cook Lead plays a critical role in maintaining operational flow, food quality, and team accountability.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of culinary or kitchen experience required; leadership or lead line experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and sanitation practices
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively during service

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards
  • Lead and support kitchen team members during service to ensure smooth and efficient operations
  • Monitor food quality, taste, portioning, and presentation to maintain consistency
  • Assign and delegate tasks to cooks and prep staff as directed by culinary leadership
  • Assist with training, coaching, and onboarding of new kitchen team members
  • Ensure all team members follow food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper setup of kitchen stations at all times
  • Oversee proper use, handling, and maintenance of kitchen equipment
  • Support inventory management, stock rotation (FIFO), and minimize waste
  • Communicate effectively with culinary leadership and front-of-house teams to ensure timely service
  • Assist in managing ticket times and maintaining pace during high-volume service
  • Complete opening, closing, and shift transition duties with accuracy and accountability
  • Step into leadership role in absence of Sous Chef or Chef as needed
  • Other duties & responsibilities as assigned by Manager
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism, teamwork, and culinary standards
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback to kitchen team members
  • Reinforce adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Help foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance kitchen culture
