About The Position

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: Assist the Cook with meal preparation for residents. Prepare healthy and nutritious meals in accordance with planned menus as well as safety and health regulations. Assist in inventorying and storing incoming food, supplies, etc., and ensure food storage areas are clean and properly arranged. Move and lift stock and equipment as necessary. Direct residents at residential sites in preparing and cooking meals. Assist with donation pick-up from Food Bank and other donation sites. Prepare for site inspections from various regulatory agencies. Train residents on aspects of safe food handling. Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms and reports. Assist in maintenance and recording of proper temperature controls, food storage, and food rotation. Maintain kitchen in a clean and safe manner by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are used. Travel to purchase food items, gather donations and other items as needed. Interact with clients and staff in a professional and respectful manner. Achieve outcomes using methods that align with CODA’s mission and values: Communicate accurately and positively about recovery and the use of evidence-based treatments. Use data and science to identify barriers, overcome obstacles, and inform decisions. Be financially responsible; avoid waste, document accurately, seek new opportunities to serve. Demonstrate compassion and respect for others. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: Provide coverage for other positions on a short-term basis as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
  • Prior work experience in menu planning and food preparation for large groups of people in a health-care environment is required.
  • Oregon Food Handler’s card.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to acquire within 90 days of hire.
  • A valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to follow infection control practices and safely work in patient-focused environment.
  • Must be able to lift pots and pans, bulk food items, and kitchen equipment, utilize knife skills, and work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures.
  • Must be able to operate a personal computer, including reading from a computer monitor, keyboarding, and using a mouse.
  • Must be able to reach, bend, and handle objects.
  • Must be able to perform Basic Life Support for 15 minutes continuously and maintain BLS certification.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are required of this position.
  • Passion for helping others, nonjudgmental, and able to deal with difficult situations in positive and constructive ways.
  • A negative result on all pre-employment, reasonable basis, and post-accident drug screens.
  • An acceptable criminal record as determined by DHS, the Oregon Administrative Rules, and the Oregon Revised Statutes; and no current supervised parole or probation.
  • An acceptable driving record and the recommended amount of personal automobile insurance as determined by CODA’s automobile insurance provider.
