About The Position

Hood Container Corporation is seeking a motivated and experienced Converting Lead to join our team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, technical knowledge of press operations, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. This role requires an individual with a deep understanding of die mounting, rotary cutting dies, and pressroom operations, as well as the ability to coach and develop team members in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of experience as an operator in a production manufacturing environment required; experience in corrugated or packaging industry preferred.
  • Proven experience in leadership, training, and problem-solving roles.
  • Familiarity with AIB and ISO-compliant manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of press operations, die mounting, and rotary cutting dies.
  • Solid understanding of safety protocols, quality control, and production procedures.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work in temperatures ranging from 40°F to 120°F for extended periods.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required.

  • Working knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma principles a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the press production team to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and standards, including Safety, Production, AIB, ISO, and Quality.
  • Collaborate with scheduling to maintain efficient workflow throughout the pressroom.
  • Provide hands-on support and coaching to employees in troubleshooting and performance improvement.
  • Coordinate with other departments to identify and resolve production challenges.
  • Conduct and document regular quality checks throughout the press production area.
  • Oversee die mounting and rotary cutting die maintenance, ensuring optimal condition and proper inventory levels.
  • Cross-train employees to build a flexible and skilled workforce.
  • Work with sales service and die mounting teams to ensure print plate quality meets company standards.
  • Attend production and safety meetings to support plant-wide goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support best practices in pressroom operations.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by leadership.
