Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a Conventional Machinist - 2nd Shift for our Burbank location. Hours are Monday-Friday 2:30pm - 11:30pm. Job Summary: The Conventional Machinist I has some knowledge on setting up and operating a variety of conventional machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments including fabricating, modifying, or repairing mechanical instruments. The Conventional Machinist I may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1+ year training in conventional machining involving both on-the-job experience and informal training
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of various inspection equipment i.e. micrometers, calipers, height gages; Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations; Knowledge of Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing; Understanding of cutting tool Geometry; Knowledge of tooling and coordination
  • Skills/Abilities: Able to work quickly and efficiently through Process Improvement structure; Good verbal and written communication; Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Responsibilities

  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as conventional lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, or drill press
  • Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measurement instruments
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the conventional machine tools, drill presses and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials into machines
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, and drawings to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products up to geometric dimensional tolerances
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
  • Listen to operating machines or equipment in order to detect machine malfunctions and compensate for problems
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management
