About The Position

We are currently in search of a Controls / Equipment Engineer to join our Industrial Engineering department of the Marquardt Group in our location Cazenovia (USA). The Controls / Equipment Engineer is responsible for supporting the electrical design and PLC programing implementation of new and upgraded assembly and test equipment. This position is responsible for defining and implementing requirements from various sources such as internal and customer specifications/expectations, overall system behavior, and developing documentation where requirements do not exist. This position will be responsible for control system design including electrical panel design and layout, bill of materials, preparing schematics for wiring, system specifications, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up / commissioning assistance.

Requirements

  • 2+ years relevant experience including college-level related course work
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (preferred)
  • Ability to specify, program and commission industrial controls for manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to program PLC controller to control industrial equipment (ex. laser, motor and robot controllers).
  • Ability to size and communicate electrical and pneumatic system requirements.
  • Ability to create electrical and pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on complex equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, supervisors, and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new production lines and equipment:
  • Compose electrical schematics for new equipment based on specs / existing design templates.
  • Assist in the assembly of electrical control enclosures to improve future designs.
  • Compose PLC and HMI programs for new equipment based on specs / existing design templates.
  • Develop robot and electric actuator programs and templates for new equipment designs.
  • Update software change log and repository to capture issues and track progress.
  • Bring new equipment online and troubleshoot wiring and programming as required.
  • Perform product preproduction builds on the equipment and assist with training and transfer to production.
  • Compose equipment operating and troubleshooting documentation based on existing templates.
  • Participate in equipment design reviews and investigate technical problems; recommend corrective actions to avoid recurrence.
  • Contribute to equipment commissioning schedules and timelines.
  • Perform technical review of supplier documentation when equipment is provided by external resources.
  • Production Support:
  • Implement engineering changes and update all required documentation, software, etc.
  • Coordinate Maintenance department training and documentation.
  • Participate in programming and troubleshooting knowledge transfer to the Maintenance department so production can support the equipment where possible.
  • Prepare spare parts definitions and documentation.
  • Other activities, projects, experiments as assigned
  • Some travel may be required to support domestic or international equipment installations.
