About The Position

As an Electrical/Controls Engineer at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in delivering engineering solutions and optimizing plant performance within our Atlas Tube division. This position requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, hands-on technical expertise, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement, offering the opportunity to directly impact equipment reliability, plant safety, and operational efficiency. You will collaborate closely with the Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations teams, ensuring that electrical systems, controls, and automation processes support consistent, high-quality production performance. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on problem-solving, enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and takes ownership of long-term reliability and improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field in electronics technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting within maintenance or engineering.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical prints and ladder logic.
  • Experienced in PLC programming and troubleshooting—specifically Allen Bradley (ControlLogix, PLC-5, SLC-500, MicroLogix, PanelView), Siemens Simatic S7, and Wonderware systems.
  • Skilled in drive setup, programming, and troubleshooting, including Allen Bradley PowerFlex AC drives and Unico Cutoff Servo Drives.
  • Knowledgeable in AC and DC motor control systems.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communicator with proven leadership, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies needs for new equipment or modifications to existing plant systems to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Troubleshoots electrical and controls-related downtime events and drives quick resolution to resume plant operations.
  • Designs and implements electrical and control solutions for plant safety and improvement projects.
  • Maintains accurate technical documentation for all plant equipment, including schematics, drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Researches and evaluates new technologies for potential integration into plant operations.
  • Partners with the Maintenance Manager to develop and implement electrical preventative maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Tracks reliability metrics and performs root cause analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides reports and corrective action plans to management for recurring or critical maintenance issues.
  • Assists in training and skill development for maintenance team members.
  • Supports contractor selection and oversight for assigned engineering projects.
