In the Controls Engineering Specialist role, the individual will be responsible for designing and developing control solutions using direct digital controls to support smarter, more efficient building systems. This involves applying engineering principles to create reliable, effective control strategies aligned with project goals and customer needs. The specialist will review project requirements, perform site assessments, and prepare installation, submittal, and as-built drawings. Collaboration with internal teams and customers is essential to address concerns and ensure a positive project experience. The role also includes identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting continuous enhancement of processes, tools, and project outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience working with control systems, building automation, or related technical fields, with the ability to understand how mechanical and electrical systems interact.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents, and communicate clearly with customers and internal teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to gather information, evaluate options, and make sound decisions.
  • Comfort working with technical instructions, diagrams, or data to troubleshoot system challenges.
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in HVAC, AAS, or BAS with related experience; or a combination of education and hands‑on experience that provides the necessary skills.
  • Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seat belt.
  • Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness and safety boots to safely perform job duties.
  • Must be able to twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction.
  • Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands.
  • Must be able to reach your hands over your head.
  • Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, routinely up to 4 hours.
  • Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 350 lb. total weight limit, while carrying equipment of 50 lbs. or less.
  • Must be able to maneuver confined access areas, as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal.
  • Must be able to comfortably and routinely access rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally, up to 50 feet +
  • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods while performing detailed engineering and design work.
  • Must be able to maintain focus and perform computer‑based tasks that require consistent hand, wrist, and finger movement for typing and mouse use.
  • Must be able to view computer screens for long durations with appropriate breaks as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field preferred
