About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2026 Internship opportunities. Join IMEG as a Controls Engineering Intern in Omaha, NE and start your career designing advanced automation and control systems that make industrial processes safer, smarter, and more efficient. You’ll collaborate with engineers across disciplines, work directly with clients, and gain hands-on experience in both office-based design and onsite system commissioning. From developing PLC/SCADA programming to supporting field start-ups, this role offers a balance of technical design, problem-solving, and real-world implementation—along with mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow from day one.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Previous exposure to AutoCAD Electrical software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing discipline-specific systems per code and IMEG standards
  • Produce control documents, including IO lists, connection schedules, loop drawings, and schematics
  • Support client relations, maintain project design notebooks, and prepare permanent record documentation
  • Coordinate design and schedules with other disciplines and suppliers
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while tracking progress
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final checks
  • Prepare and issue addendum information
  • Conduct job site observations and perform services per contract requirements
