About The Position

The Office of Physical Plant at Penn State is seeking applicants for a Controls Engineer position that will be responsible for providing Engineering Controls support to all utility operating units of the University, which include all industrial control systems.

Requirements

  • If filled as Operations Engineer - Senior Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience
  • If filled as Operations Engineer - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
  • This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Developing control systems and strategies for industrial applications.
  • Performing system and network calculations to ensure stability and reliability.
  • Programming and implementing PLCs, SCADA systems, and DCS systems.
  • Collaborating with other engineers, technicians, and clients to discuss and solve problems related to the system.
  • Developing and maintaining system documentation, including functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and operational manuals.
  • Integrating different components of a control system, including controllers, sensors, and actuators.
  • Assessing and upgrading existing control systems as required.
  • Providing technical support to the Controls Supervisor and the assigned technicians.
  • Ensuring all Penn State, regulatory, and safety requirements are met.
  • Staying updated with the latest control systems technologies and industry trends.
  • Performing design reviews and maintaining the Design and Construction Standards.
  • Specifying, testing, and implementing steam plant generator control systems, black start procedure, and island mode automation.
  • Assisting with the integration of all utilities into a centralized control room.
  • Supporting electrical utility engineering for new construction, power system analysis, and distribution planning.
