About The Position

This position plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates assigned engineering work; monitors work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and standards; ensures effective communication between all disciplines and all other project participants. Individual's focus will be on industrial controls and automation in a CPG environment. This role will have multi-site responsibilities for our facilities in Norwalk, IA, Lenox, IA, and Wakefield, NE.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, and 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a commensurate level of experience in a food processing environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Project management experience. Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously while still meeting deadlines and budget.
  • Must be able to react quickly and appropriately to changing priorities, requirements and circumstances.
  • Problem-analysis and problem-solving skills; quality orientation and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs required. Rockwell/Allen Bradley experience preferred. AutoCAD experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of IT principles including networking and servers
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication. Ability to work with vendors, customers, and employees.
  • Must excel at working in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CPG packaging technology and automation preferred.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs required. Rockwell/Allen Bradley experience preferred. AutoCAD experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with MFI facilities in your region to assist with electrical and automation troubleshooting; escalate issues as needed
  • Program approved logical and visual changes as identified or requested
  • Assist capital project engineers with quoting, planning and commissioning of new equipment from an automation perspective
  • Estimate, plan, coordinate, program and start up small to mid-size projects that meet the plant's needs and are completed on time and on budget
  • Review, redline and update electrical schematics
  • Perform small to mid-size program conversions for PLC and HMI programs
  • Install and troubleshoot automation software for site technicians
  • Collaborate with and assist other regional controls engineers as needed
  • Up to 30% regional travel required
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level, as assigned
  • Maintain inventory of automation equipment at facilities in your region, review for obsolescence to assist in capital planning
  • Assist in reviewing new controls projects for adherence to technical best practices, MFI standards, accuracy, completeness and cost
  • Conduct informal training and coaching with automation and electrical technicians
  • Work with plants to identify opportunities for process or maintenance improvement
  • Work with IT department to ensure proper integration, isolation and management of automation devices and servers
