The controls engineering leads Bumble Bee Seafoods' corporate automation initiatives, overseeing factory capital projects for electrical and automation. Supporting engineering efforts across our manufacturing sites in San Diego, CA; Santa Fe Springs, CA; Cape May, NJ; and Blacks Harbour, NB, Canada. This role will work with project engineers supporting each factory site that drives process optimization, automation, and sustainability across the network, while managing the Company’s capital plan and aligning technical initiatives with business strategy.

  • Partner with factory General Managers and Dir of Engineering to align capital priorities, asset strategies, and automation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and re-engineering through automation, control systems, and standardization.
  • Provide leadership on technical problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Expand in-house automation capabilities; support cross-site knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Manage all aspects of project execution: RFPs, technical specs, vendor selection, installation, and factory acceptance testing for assigned projects.
  • Support and help shape 3-to-5-year Capital Plans in alignment with business objectives.
  • Foster collaboration across departments including R&D, QA, Supply Chain, and Maintenance.
  • Remote PLC and automation troubleshooting.
  • Maintain electrical drawings so they remain current
  • Maintain a database of programs (past and current versions)
  • Led the ignition transition and support going forward.
  • Serve as a visible leader and coach to safety, environmental, and plant leadership teams.
  • Conduct training and development initiatives that empower employees at all levels to own results
  • Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration.
  • Lead by example—being a consistent presence on the floor and in the plants, listening, teaching, and inspiring others.
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 10-15+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/operations environment, with increasing responsibility in technical or engineering roles.
  • Proven project leadership in cross-functional environments; strong organizational and execution skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in automation, PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, ControlNet).
  • Familiarity with CAD systems, solid modeling software, Microsoft Project, and general Office tools.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and electrical schematics; hands-on capability in prototyping a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead change and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated success in building a safety culture and delivering sustainability initiatives with measurable results.
  • Ability to travel regularly to Cape May, Santa Fe Springs, and Blacks Harbour.
  • Proven experience with FAT, SAT and holding vendors accountable for deliverables.
  • Familiar with food manufacturing and equipment, specifically end of line equipment.
  • Background in canning is preferred.
