About The Position

About Pierce, an Oshkosh company At Pierce Manufacturing, we build trucks that protect people and communities around the world. To our team, there is no room for anything less than providing the absolute best. Since 1913, building truck bodies on Model T Ford chassis in an old converted church has evolved to creating highly customized, carefully designed and engineering pumpers, aerials, tankers and rescue units that have no equal. Today, you'll find more than 30,000 Pierce apparatuses on the road that are making a difference in people's lives, every day. To us, every step in the process of building our trucks is personal. From innovation and expertise, to the customization and service. Our trucks are designed to perform under the toughest conditions. The Engineer – Controls works within engineering teams to support the implementation of control strategies for industrial automated equipment, robotics, autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and Industry 4.0 technologies. This role focuses on advanced control strategy development and verification for a wide range of automated systems, including robotics, motion control, industrial machinery, and smart manufacturing solutions. YOUR IMPACT: Assist in the development and implementation of control strategies for industrial automated equipment, robotics, autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and Industry 4.0 systems under close supervision. Perform basic engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks related to automation, robotics, and smart manufacturing. Deliver results in alignment with Oshkosh and general industry engineering standards, including robotic control, automation safety, and industrial communication protocols. Support Senior Engineers in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reports for automated material handling, robotic integration, and factory automation systems. Work in collaboration with Mechanical engineers, industrial automation teams, external component suppliers, and cross-functional engineering groups to support robotic system development and integration. Assist in advanced manufacturing system controls, robotics, and automation research, development, verification and validation, testing, and production implementation. Support the development of intelligent control strategies using PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and industrial automation systems. Assist internal project teams on advanced control system development for industrial robotics, AGVs, AMRs, and automated equipment. Support predictive maintenance strategies and AI-driven automation enhancements. Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to continuous improvement in automation and smart manufacturing processes.
