About The Position

Gerhart is seeking a Controls Engineering Intern to join our team this summer working within our Engineering Solutions team! In this role, the Controls Engineer will work closely with our Engineering Solutions team. This is a temporary position working Full-time hours with compensation. Gerhart Engineering Solutions team supports business development, design, development, testing, and implementation of products and systems for a multitude of manufacturing industries and customers. The candidate will work within a group of Process Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Management, and Fabrication team resources. Gerhart’s internship program involves a work experience rotation with exposure to many areas of the project development cycle at Gerhart. It includes custom product design, standard product support, electrical and pneumatic control panel manufacturing involvement, and in-field experiences with Gerhart’s Service and/or Field Engineering resources. There will be experiences with PLC and HMI programming such as Rockwell products (Micro 800, Studio 5000, Factory talk view ME) and multiple automation platforms.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university OR has completed an Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology
  • Exposure and able to use 2D CAD design software (Autocad preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Has a desire for hands-on experience
  • Familiarity with basic shop tools and electrical testing equipment
  • Must be able to work with multidisciplinary teams and independently

Responsibilities

  • Support process controls engineering design, development, and manufacturing efforts for engineered solutions that meet a high-level of functional and perceived quality to the customer.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and technical personnel to effectively develop solutions.
  • Generate detailed technical product specifications for customer project needs through electronic, verbal, and on-site evaluations to be used to complete product design, development, and manufacturing of solutions.
  • Perform process control engineering and design for projects that may integrate with electrical, fluid, pneumatic, weighing, and controls design.
  • Create CAD drawings for electrical panel solutions.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to support product designs through the manufacturing process and validation testing.
  • Provide support to Gerhart’s field engineering and installers for the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of Gerhart designed systems.
