About The Position

The Controls Engineer III leads controls and automation projects, including complete system design, advanced programming, architecture development, and integration of new equipment. This role serves as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting, documentation, and process optimization. The engineer mentors junior staff, drives controls standards, coordinates with customers, vendors and contractors, and ensures projects meet safety, quality, and performance requirements. Operates with minimal oversight and contributes to strategic planning of the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering: preferably Controls, Electrical, Mechanical or related Automation fields
  • Expert-level PLC/HMI programming and system integration experience
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, industrial networking, and SCADA platforms
  • Experience leading automation projects and system startups
  • Competence with electrical design tools, safety circuits, and code compliance
  • Proven ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and system optimization
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Ability to develop standards, best practices, and technical documentation
  • 5-10 years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, programming, and implementation of large-scale control system projects
  • Architect control-system layouts, networks, PLC standards, and automation strategies
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting on complex or intermittent failures
  • Develop controls standards, best practices, and documentation requirements
  • Train, mentor, and support engineers and technical staff
  • Work with vendors, review proposals, and approve technical deliverables
  • Ensure system reliability, maintainability, and compliance with regulatory and company guidelines
