About The Position

The Controls & Electrical Installer is responsible for the physical installation, wiring, termination, and checkout of building automation and HVAC control systems. This role focuses on field execution—installing control panels, devices, and raceways—while working from engineering drawings and specifications. This is a hands-on position and does not involve controls programming or system integration engineering.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of electrical installation practices for control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • Control drawings and wiring schematics
  • Panel layouts and I/O schedules
  • Experience working with HVAC control devices such as:
  • Sensors, actuators, relays, contactors, VFD interfaces, and unit controllers
  • Familiarity with industry-standard control wiring and termination methods
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a field installation team
  • Commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and documentation
  • Associate degree or technical certification in:
  • Electrical Technology
  • Controls
  • HVAC
  • Automation
  • Or a related technical field
  • 2–5 years of experience in:
  • Controls installation
  • Electrical installation
  • HVAC electrical work
  • Industrial or commercial systems
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
  • Lift and carry 40–75 lbs
  • Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces
  • Stand, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of BACnet or controls communication wiring is helpful but not required

Responsibilities

  • Install HVAC and building automation control systems per project drawings and specifications
  • Mount control panels, J-boxes, sensors, actuators, VFD interfaces, and control devices
  • Perform low-voltage and line-voltage wiring, including conduit, cable tray, and flexible raceways
  • Terminate wiring at panels, controllers, terminal blocks, and end devices
  • Label wiring, devices, and panels to company and project standards
  • Perform point-to-point checkout and continuity testing
  • Assist with system startup and commissioning support under direction of controls technicians or engineers
  • Update as-built drawings and redlines as required
  • Follow job-site safety standards and company safety policies
  • Communicate progress and job status with project managers and field leadership
  • Travel to job sites as required
