The Controller at Phoenix Charter Academy will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This position involves managing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring the accuracy of monthly account reconciliations, and collaborating closely with the finance team on various general accounting tasks. The Controller will be responsible for the timely and accurate review of monthly financial reports, which includes supporting schools in understanding these reports and preparing ad-hoc financial analyses as needed. Additionally, the Controller will lead the annual budget preparation process, supervise finance team members, and coordinate the audit process to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role also includes managing grant funds, leading payroll and benefits processes, and assisting with financial systems to ensure they are functioning effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong alignment with the organization's mission and a degree in Accounting or a related field. They should possess a minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the education or not-for-profit sectors. The Controller must be capable of performing hands-on accounting tasks while also reviewing the work of others, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail, and possessing excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience with QuickBooks is considered a plus, and the candidate must be responsive to staff inquiries and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
