About the position

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Controller to take the lead in optimizing our financial operations and driving organizational growth through both organic and acquisition transactions. With exceptional communication skills and a strong background in financial analysis, you will oversee and enhance the financial accounting and reporting process as well as serve as an integral part of budgeting and management and board reporting. Reporting directly to the CFO and serving as a member of the leadership team, you will deliver actionable insights and play a critical role in guiding our financial strategy and delivering on those goals. This hybrid role offers flexibility, with the ability to be in-person in Manhattan on a regular basis. Candidates must reside within the New York tri-state area. Occasional travel within the US and to London is required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting process including general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, and payroll.
  • Provide comprehensive financial updates and insights to company leadership, delivering accurate and timely evaluations, analyses, and reports to inform strategic decisions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for federal, state, and local income and other taxes including commercial rent taxes, Value Added Tax (VAT), franchise taxes, etc.
  • Partner with FP&A to develop and report against the budget and interim forecasts.
  • Design, implement, and enforce robust financial controls, guidelines, and operational benchmarks to enhance efficiency and minimize risk.
  • Lead and expand the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Guide financial decision-making by applying company policies within the context of evolving economic landscapes.
  • Develop and implement innovative payroll processes to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to national, state, and local regulations, including UK VAT compliance, while administering consistent accounting policies and controls.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of short- and long-term operational strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Maintain and refine a documented system of accounting policies, operational procedures, and controls to mitigate risk and ensure consistency.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional accounting experience, including 5+ years as a senior-level finance or accounting manager in a high-volume, multi-unit environment (preferred).
  • CPA certification required; experience with consolidated entities and UK GAAP and taxation preferred.
  • Experience with acquisition diligence and integration strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working within a NetSuite environment is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of US and UK GAAP, financial data analysis, banking processes, and tax regulations across the US and UK.
  • Proven experience building, managing, and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, navigating both high-level planning and day-to-day management.

  • Track record of successfully managing complex financial projects with measurable outcomes.
