Position Summary: Manage accounting department providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all agency activities that will assist management and others, as needed, in making educated economic decisions about the agency's future. Reporting to the President, the Controller will be an individual who has continuously demonstrated their expertise and experience in each of the major aspects of financial accounting, reporting, tax, and compliance.

Requirements

  • In-depth working knowledge of Excel.

  • Must possess excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to protect sensitive and confidential information.
  • Working knowledge of Information Systems software and hardware processes and procedures as within a “help desk” function strongly desired.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other equivalent field experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant accounting experience within a small to medium sized organization with overall responsibility for the accounting function
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience required
  • Experience in or knowledge of the insurance industry highly preferred
  • IT help desk/data management background helpful

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for management and development of accounting staff.
  • Oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, monthly financial statements and budgets.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll and act as 401(k) Plan Administrator.
  • Oversee the disbursement activities and ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, company payables, petty cash, employee expense reports, cash control, and total corporate compliance.
  • Oversee the accounts receivable and treasury activities to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts and collections.
  • Oversee corporate income tax compliance for accuracy and timely completion of all tax returns in conjunction with third party tax preparers.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the agency's value.
  • Monitor and make appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring practices are in line with the overall goals of the agency. Partner with management to identify necessary operational process improvements.
  • Work with IT Department to utilize all available tools and resources for efficient operation of the accounting department.
  • Plan for and assist with accounting system upgrades and/or implementations, and other process and application needs for a scaling company.
  • Assist Agency owners with financial planning and analysis, including budgets, forecasts, results analysis and capital planning. Provide accurate and timely information, including the compilation of data into specialized reports to facilitate financial needs, as requested.
