The Opportunity: We are an established distributor that is constantly evolving and changing how we do business. The Controller role will take ownership of key areas of accounting, reporting, and management while being plugged into a strong team all working together with the same overall goals. You will report directly to the Director of Finance and will be instrumental in maintaining our financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards. You will manage a small and impactful accounting team that also supports results reporting across many facets of the business. This is an in-person position at our corporate office in Northbrook, Illinois.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Experience: 10 years’ experience in accounting, 3 years’ management experience, public accounting experience a big plus.
Technical Skills: Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency including VLOOKUP and pivot tables, strong comfort with ERP systems, NetSuite specifically a big plus.
Knowledge: Knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles, multi-entity intercompany accounting, payroll reporting, sales tax reporting.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, team player, hands-on executor, and a commitment to accuracy.

Responsibilities

Month end close: Conduct the monthly financial close process, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
Financial reporting: Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Statement.
Full-Cycle Accounting Support: Manage accounting team members with their daily/monthly responsibilities and provide solutions to situations and questions that arise.
Process improvement: Review and/or develop accounting policies and procedures to drive efficiency and accuracy.
Yearend review: Coordinate and prepare documentation requested by outside accounting firm for financial statement compilation and tax return preparations.
Management: Manage an impactful team of two direct reports and one indirect report.
Cash Flow projection delivery weekly with insight analysis to upper management/owners plus collaboration with purchasing department on inventory dynamics
Review and approval of Concur employee expense reimbursement requests.
Working knowledge of how to complete all accounting processes and reporting managed by you including but not limited to: A/R, revenue recognition, A/P, PO billing, prepaids, accruals, depreciation, sales tax reporting, payroll reporting.
Learning the industry and its dynamics to accounting including but not limited to: manufacturer credits, manufacturer reward programs, education, commission earnings, results reporting.
Build good rapport across all departments and with outside manufacturers.
Assist with special projects as needed.
