About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the financial operations of a growing multi-location medical practice operating across five locations and three related entities in the Kansas City metro area. This is an onsite, operational leadership role responsible for payroll, accounting, reconciliations, reporting, and oversight of billing processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable managing day-to-day financial operations in a multi-entity environment. This is not a CFO-level or corporate finance strategy role. This is a working Controller position focused on execution, accuracy, and financial integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Prior Controller or Senior Accountant experience preferred
  • Experience managing payroll, ideally including physician compensation
  • Multi-location or multi-entity accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of reconciliations, AP, and month-end close
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and Excel
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently

  • CPA is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage month-end close and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare monthly production and collection reports
  • Reconcile daily deposits across five locations
  • Perform bank reconciliations for multiple accounts
  • Track and itemize company credit cards
  • Oversee accounts payable and vendor payments
  • Process mileage reimbursements and patient refunds
  • Process payroll for physicians and staff across three entities
  • Manage physician compensation, bonuses, and on-call pay
  • Administer staff payroll and bonus payroll
  • Oversee payroll tax compliance
  • Manage 401(k) reporting and coordination
  • Supervise internal billing team
  • Collaborate with third-party billing companies to ensure accurate coding and collections
  • Monitor AR performance and identify discrepancies
  • Handle tax-related items and coordinate with external CPA
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets
