About The Position

NOVA Engineering & Environmental is hiring a Controller for our Kennesaw, GA headquarters. The Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the company, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role leads the accounting team, manages internal controls, and partners closely with the Vice President of Finance and cross-functional leaders to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA/Master’s preferred.
  • CPA required or strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and financial systems experience.

  • Deltek/Vantagepoint experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all entities and office.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff; assign work and set priorities.
  • Review and code invoices, journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Ensure accurate, timely financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, capital expenditures, and depreciation.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.
  • Design and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Serve as primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare and review management reporting, variance analysis, and KPI dashboards.
  • Maintain integrity of WIP, AR, and unbilled revenue.
  • Monitor utilization, realization, and project profitability metrics.
  • Review project write-ups, write-downs, and margin adjustments.
  • Partner with Operations and Business Unit leaders on project financial performance, labor cost management, and indirect cost recovery.
  • Ensure accurate labor distribution, overhead allocation, and multiplier calculations.
  • Serve as escalation point for complex accounting or system issues.
  • Lead process improvements and system enhancements.
  • Support M&A activity and integrations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
