About The Position

The Controller supports the Chief Financial Officer in overseeing the financial operations of Safe Children Coalition, Inc. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective financial processes across the organization. The Controller assists in leading the Accounting Department and plays a key role in budgeting, forecasting, audits, and financial oversight of government-funded programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, including supervision of staff.
  • Must meet state criminal background check requirements.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Remote/hybrid options may be available after initial training period.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license in good standing and comply with all agency driver guidelines and insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Close: Assist with preparation of monthly and annual financial statements. Ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis: Assist in the annual budgeting process. Monitor budget performance and prepare variance analyses.
  • Compliance, Grants & Audits: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Monitor financial activity related to government contracts and grants.
  • Operational Oversight & Controls: Supervise Accounts Payable and Payroll functions. Oversee cash management, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Assist in leading the Accounting Department, including staff development. Collaborate with Directors and Administrative teams on financial planning.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and accountability by supervising, coaching, and supporting assigned staff to promote operational excellence and a respectful and professional work environment.
  • Set clear performance expectations and goals; conduct regular check-ins, performance evaluations, and feedback sessions
  • Communicate expectations, updates, and operational changes clearly to staff
  • Oversee daily operations of the assigned unit or program to ensure efficient and effective service delivery
  • Participate in meetings, training, supervisory forums, audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities
