The Impact You’ll Make in this Role The Controller has hands-on responsibility for all financial accounting functions in accordance with GAAP including monthly close cycle, financial analysis, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. Provide the executive team with relevant financial results. Actively engaged as the financial partner to the business team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate accuracy, integrity, and a strong understanding of payroll systems and financial principles. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years’ accounting experience in full cycle month end close, financial reporting, budgets, payroll, and audit
  • 3+ years in a supervisory role with strong leadership leading / training accounting teams
  • Strong skills in financial statements, consolidations, deferred revenue, rev rec, non-profit accounting
  • Advanced Excel and Word skills
  • Highly responsive; accustomed to partnering with the business
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred.
  • Nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily accounting activities and provide disciplined monthly reporting
  • Manage working capital
  • Oversee cash management activities and forecast cash requirements
  • Handle month/quarter/annual close of income statement and balance sheet
  • Review the general ledger and complete supporting reconciliations and journal entries
  • Present C-Suite with financial results
  • Oversee payroll administration
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve accounting and operational matters with vendors, customers, and banks
  • Develop, implement, improve, and review internal controls, accounting policies and procedures
  • Ad hoc financial analysis
  • Lead and develop accounting staff
  • Lead the transformation of the accounting software for both the Zoo and the School
  • Lead the team in yearly financial audit
  • Responsible for remittance of all sales tax
  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
  • Constantly exhibit a guest service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in guest comfort and service
  • Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist guests with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the guest - do not wait to be asked.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
