What You’ll Do As Controller, you will work closely with the CFO to oversee all accounting operations, ensure financial accuracy and compliance, and lead the accounting team. You will play a key role in financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, compliance, and process improvement across multiple entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) in accounting, or related field or equivalent experience in the accounting/auditing field.
  • CPA (or currently pursuing) required.
  • Five years of professional experience in accounting and/or auditing related roles.
  • Full cycle accounting experience (A/R, A/P, Bank/CC monthly statement reconciliations, quarterly/annual financial statement preparation for outside accountant)
  • Experience at for-profit companies operating in fast paced environment, Distribution industry a strong plus.
  • Experience with managing accounting team.
  • Experience with accounting platforms (e.g. Sage, Peachtree, QuickBooks, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of internal and external financial reports and annual budgets.
  • Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, employee expense reports, payroll processing, corporate credit cards and corporate payroll tax compliance. Initiate payment of approved bills.
  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts and statements to understand the financial state of the business
  • Monitor company’s financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs
  • Oversee the activities of accounts receivable to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billing, cash receipts applications, etc.
  • Manage the company’s corporate card programs (two programs), including policy oversight, expense tracking, reconciliations and travel expense compliance
  • Oversee administration and compliance of the company’s 401(k) retirement plan, including coordination with third-party providers, audits, reporting, and employee inquiries
  • Direct preparation of annual budgets for multiple entities, including summarization and reporting for management planning.
  • Coordinate and perform routine cash management to ensure timely payment of recurring and irregular obligations. Work closely with the CFO regarding Treasury management including Initiating cash transfers, potential lines of credit, etc.
  • Prepare biweekly multi-state payroll and support human resource matters.
  • Coordinate with tax preparer to ensure compliance, accuracy and timely completion of all business income tax returns; prepare and review tax preparation workpapers.
  • Prepare, review and submit all quarterly estimated and annual corporate income tax payments, and verify receipt and payment of tax billings and payment by proper obligors.
  • Coordinate annual insurance renewals and provide updated schedules of insurable values.
  • Assist in all phases of lender and banking relationships, including routine reporting as well as new and renewal financing.
  • Prepare and maintain operational reporting. This requires constant communication with managers to ensure inclusion of all issues.
  • Maintain compliance software. Assist in identifying and implementing accounting software to improve productivity and ROI while reducing redundancies and errors. Assists with related special projects as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
