About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead and scale our finance function across our U.S. and Canadian entities. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for owning day-to-day financial operations while building the systems, processes, and team needed to support a multi-entity organization. You will be reporting to the CFO. The ideal candidate is both a strong operator and a people leader, someone who can ensure accuracy and compliance today while designing a finance organization that can scale for the future.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with a minimum of 5 years in a Controller or Senior Finance leadership role.
  • Direct, recent experience managing the full-cycle accounting and reporting for multiple countries, specifically the US and Canada entities.
  • Proven experience in a highly hands-on role where tactical execution and strategic oversight were balanced.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, or significant business changes, with the ability to bring structure, clarity, and stability in evolving environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of finance technology and automation tools (ERP systems, reporting software, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a team and collaborate effectively in a high-pressure environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Canadian GAAP/IFRS is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Own and oversee all accounting and financial operations across U.S. and Canadian entities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely, accurate reporting across all entities, including intercompany transactions and foreign currency considerations.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and applicable Canadian statutory requirements (IFRS familiarity strongly preferred).
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and short and long-term financial planning.
  • Oversee payroll compliance and accuracy across jurisdictions, including coordination with external providers.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state/provincial, and local tax requirements in the U.S. and Canada, including income tax, payroll tax, sales tax, and filings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners.
  • Lead and manage annual audits, ensuring a high standard of organization, documentation, and proactive communication with auditors and internal stakeholders throughout the process.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the accounting team, setting clear expectations and priorities.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and coaching to ensure the team operates efficiently, accurately, and with strong ownership of responsibilities.
  • Strengthen team workflows, roles, and controls to improve consistency, accountability, and quality across all finance activities.
  • Partner cross-functionally with leadership, People Ops, and Operations to support business decision-making and ensure alignment across the organization.
  • Review and optimize existing multi-entity finance processes, identifying inefficiencies and inconsistencies between U.S. and Canadian operations.
  • Design and implement improved controls, documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and lead opportunities for automation and system improvements (ERP, reporting, reconciliation tools) to improve efficiency, speed, and visibility.
  • Develop and execute a roadmap for the future-state finance function, balancing near-term needs with long-term scalability.
  • Lead the accounting team through acquisitions and integrations, including purchase accounting, systems/process alignment, and post-close reporting.
  • Ensure accurate, timely integration of acquired entities into existing financial, payroll, and compliance frameworks while maintaining business continuity.
