The Controller is a critical leader in the finance department responsible for the Center’s day-to-day accounting and financial activities, accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP for Not-For-Profit organizations, leading the annual audits, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and internal policies and procedures. The Controller is a key strategic partner of the VP Finance and collaborative member of the business office and administrative teams, recommending and implementing financial systems and controls to ensure fiscal responsibility.

  • Oversight, leadership, and execution of Hanna’s day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, cash management, banking and investment accounting, AP/AR and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP pronouncements in all accounting matters.
  • Manage grant-related financial activities, including tracking, reporting, and compliance; work closely with development team and program managers to process accurate monthly grant invoicing.
  • Maintain restricted fund records, reconciliations, and payroll allocation schedules.
  • Develop, document, implement and maintain financial procedures and policies.
  • Ensure timely month-end and annual close processes with management analysis.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and budget vs. actual analyses.
  • Coordinate annual audit process, prepare schedules, and support auditors.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing development and support.
  • Assist VP Finance and CEO with strategic financial planning for on-going and new initiatives.
  • Lead the preparation and implementation of the annual budget process and allocation models.
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analyses, reports, and forecasts as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business required; CPA highly preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years in senior financial positions, preferably in nonprofit organizations with multiple funding sources.
  • Experience with GAAP, management accounting, cost allocation, and internal control environments.
  • Experience in ERP platforms; Sage Intacct preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Ability to independently set priorities and manage competing deliverables.
  • Leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems (Sage Intacct preferred).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with collaborative work style.
