Controller – Manufacturing Operations San Antonio, TX | Full-Time A growing manufacturing organization in San Antonio is seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial operations supporting its production environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on finance leader with a strong background in manufacturing accounting, cost analysis, and operational partnership. The Controller will serve as a key business partner to plant leadership, driving financial discipline, transparency, and performance improvement. Role Summary The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial activities tied to manufacturing operations, including cost accounting, inventory controls, budgeting, and financial reporting. This position blends technical accounting expertise with strategic insight, supporting decision-making across production, supply chain, and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all accounting activities related to manufacturing operations in compliance with GAAP
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting at the plant and divisional levels
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance
  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors related to manufacturing finance
  • Own the cost accounting structure, including standards, bills of material, and labor and overhead allocation
  • Analyze production variances and translate results into operational insights
  • Partner with operations to improve cost visibility and drive margin improvement initiatives
  • Evaluate product profitability and support pricing and sourcing decisions
  • Lead annual operating budgets for manufacturing functions
  • Develop forecasts and financial models to support capacity planning and strategic initiatives
  • Monitor performance trends and provide actionable variance explanations
  • Deliver rolling forecasts to support agile business planning
  • Oversee inventory valuation, reconciliation, and reporting processes
  • Ensure accurate accounting for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
  • Support cycle counts and physical inventories
  • Collaborate with operations to improve inventory turns and reduce excess or obsolete stock
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and reporting efficiency
  • Implement scalable processes that support growth and operational complexity
  • Partner on ERP and financial system enhancements or upgrades
  • Establish and maintain clear documentation for financial procedures
  • Lead and develop a manufacturing-focused accounting team
  • Set performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching
  • Build bench strength through training and professional development
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with plant leadership, supply chain, and operations teams
  • Provide financial insight to support capital investments, production decisions, and process changes
  • Act as a trusted advisor on the financial impact of operational initiatives
