About The Position

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join the Technical Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the commissioning, startup, and operation of a new sophisticated facility from the ground up.   As a Control Systems Engineer supporting the commissioning and startup of a large‑scale ethylene and polyethylene facility, you will ensure that new automation and control systems are configured, tested, and ready for reliable operation. In this role, the Control Systems Engineer will maintain and troubleshoot DCS/PLC hardware and software, verify field instrumentation compatibility, implement configuration changes, and support loop checks and functional testing. This role will help maintain system and instrument databases, provide technical expertise to EPCs and automation teams to ensure implementation of control logic aligns with project designs and control narratives. Working closely with operations, instrumentation, analyzer, and project teams, to help validate design deliverables, resolve control system issues, monitor system health, and support a safe and successful startup

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with at least 5 years of experience OR Associate degree in instrumentation or electronics with at least 7 years of experience
  • Can read and understand design documents. (P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of industrial control systems
  • Experience reading control logic diagrams
  • Programming experience
  • Experience in plant environment
  • Able to configure in PLC, DCS, and/or SIS

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV Control System
  • Ethylene or polyethylene manufacturing experience
  • Experience with virtualization or ICS/OT network administration
  • Experience with Emerson Agile Ops
  • Experience with RSLogix/ Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View
  • Experience with Commissioning/Startup

Responsibilities

  • Reviews technical specifications, design guides, and user manuals
  • Assists in the checkout of instrument control loops in existing plants or plant expansions
  • Undertakes bad actor identification and analysis to reduce equipment downtime
  • Calibrates systems requiring basic electronic test equipment
  • Collects data using computer maintenance management system (CMMS) or other available data sources
  • Performs maintenance service repairs on control systems hardware
  • Documents changes and provides information for as-built documentation
  • Completes administrative tasks including but not limited to time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation
  • Assists in developing related preventive maintenance that do not currently exist
  • Contributes to maintaining the project’s instrument database using automated tools and has knowledge of the applicability of information to be populated in the instrument database
  • Maintains DCS software database
  • Modifies DCS configuration per plant requirements
  • Works with instrumentation and analyzer groups to troubleshoot systems issues
  • Monitors control system health
  • Design and implement DCS/PLC software changes on control systems including but not limited to structured text, PLC ladder logic, DCS logic configurations, point building, graphic design, assisting with alarm management and assisting with APC initiatives.
  • Coordinates testing on projects and changes made to control systems, validation of project design, ensure compliance with cyber security, and develop and ensure compliance with design standardization
