Position Overview: The Control Systems Engineer (CSE) designs, implements, and maintains automated control systems (process control/SIS/Analytical) and instrumentation for various plant processes and operations. The CSE ensures smooth operation of equipment and optimal production efficiency while adhering to safety and environmental regulations and standards. This role designs control algorithms, troubleshoots system issues, performs upgrades, and collaborates with other engineers and operators to enhance overall production and process performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience working in an engineering role
  • Exposure to base layer control and instrumentation (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Distributed Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, etc.)
  • Exposure to Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Skilled in control algorithm implementation for Honeywell LCN and Experion PKS DCS platforms, PLC applications and miscellaneous control hardware
  • Knowledge of Triconex Safety Systems and Bentley-Nevada machine monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of refining and/or chemical processes
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)

Responsibilities

  • Provide control system & instrumentation engineering support across various systems and production areas.
  • Monitor control systems performance trends to identify issues impacting equipment reliability and production.
  • Collaborate on design of control processes tailored to specific system elements or processes.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance of control systems including software updates, system backups, hardware replacements and troubleshooting of system issues.
  • Analyze data collected from sensors and control systems to identify trends, detect anomalies, and diagnose performance issues.
  • Provide timely input to turnaround planning, documents, scope of work and plans for execution.
  • Provide active support during turnaround, execution, and startup activities.
  • Confirm instrument equipment is installed in accordance with Motiva standards, industry standards, and national electric codes.
  • Ensure full compliance with HSSE and technical standards/procedures.
  • Assess and identify training needs for new control equipment, developing and delivering information sessions as required.
