Fareva Richmond is currently seeking a Control Systems Engineer II to join our Engineering team. POSITION SUMMARY The Control Systems Engineer II provides hands-on engineering support for process control systems, automation projects, and site operations at the Richmond facility. This role executes and supports PLC-based control systems, SCADA platforms, HMIs, variable frequency drives, and industrial electrical systems while ensuring compliance with cGMP and applicable regulatory requirements. The position supports capital and non-capital automation projects, provides troubleshooting and technical support to operations, and assists in maintaining systems in a verified state. The Control Systems Engineer II works independently on assigned tasks while collaborating closely with Engineering, Operations, IT, and external vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline required
  • 5–10 years of experience in control systems and automation engineering within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting PLC-based control systems, electrical panels, and industrial automation equipment required
  • Extensive hands-on experience with PLCs and SCADA systems
  • Strong working knowledge of HMIs, variable frequency drives, servos, and industrial electrical systems
  • Experience with industrial networking and system troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control system documentation
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with regulated or cGMP manufacturing environments preferred
  • Familiarity with Part 11 requirements and verification documentation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Execution of Process Control & Automation Projects
  • Support execution of process control system projects for manufacturing and facilities operations
  • Assist with defining project scope, schedules, vendor selection, equipment specification, verification activities, and project close-out
  • Specify, configure, program, and test control systems including PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, drives, PC-based control systems, and BMS
  • Provide limited support for facility electrical systems as related to automation projects
  • Site Technical Support & Troubleshooting
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical support for PLC-controlled equipment and SCADA systems supporting site operations
  • Diagnose issues related to drives, HMIs, electrical control panels, industrial networks, and instrumentation
  • Serve as a technical resource to Operations and Maintenance, providing recommendations for system improvements and reliability
  • System Maintenance, Verification & Compliance
  • Support maintenance of control systems in a validated and verified state consistent with 21 CFR Part 11 and Fareva Richmond’s verification lifecycle
  • Assist with system documentation, backups, archiving, and data integrity activities in coordination with IT and Technical Services
  • Support system recovery activities, vendor coordination, and minor system upgrades or modifications
  • Standards, Change Management & Documentation
  • Support site change management activities for control system changes, including documentation and verification requirements
  • Assist in development and adherence to site standards for process control systems and instrumentation
  • Participate in control-related reviews, audits, and verification activities
  • Safety, Training & cGMP Compliance
  • Follow and promote site safety procedures and cGMP requirements
  • Incorporate safety and regulatory compliance into all assigned work and projects
  • Complete all required technical, safety, and compliance training
