About The Position

Join CPChem as a Control System Technician, where you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our manufacturing operations in Pasadena. This position within the Manufacturing & Projects SBU provides an exciting opportunity to work with advanced Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) integral to our production efficiency and safety. As a dedicated member of the Maintenance & Support Services division, you will apply your expertise to ensure our control systems operate reliably and effectively, supporting both ongoing operations and new project implementations. This role requires technical proficiency balanced with strong communication skills to instruct and assist colleagues and contractors.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in instrumentation or electronics from an accredited trade school or junior college; alternatively, a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in maintenance and support of DCS and PLC equipment.
  • Solid foundational knowledge of electronic theory and digital logic, underpinning effective troubleshooting and system analysis.
  • Proven ability to instruct and mentor maintenance personnel in advanced troubleshooting techniques and standard maintenance procedures, fostering team competence and knowledge sharing.

  • Familiarization with programming languages (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text)

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly PMs on the DCS and PLC systems to maintain the integrity of the system
  • Performs minor software program modifications on computer and microprocessor systems such as DCS (DeltaV, etc) and PLC (Modicon, Allen Bradley, Triconex)
  • Assists Control Systems Specialists and IEC Engineers with design and implementation of projects that involve modification to control systems
  • Leads the execution of MICE Instrumented Protective Systems (IPS) PMs to maintain the integrity of the system
  • Consults with operations and I&E maintenance personnel to determine remedies for problems associated with malfunctioning control system instrumentation and recommends corrective action
  • Assists in the checkout of instrument control loops in existing plants or plant expansions and works with contractors to insure proper installation
  • Provides 24-hour on call Control Systems support
