About The Position

The Operations & Facilities Management Department at WashU Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus. We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 11.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management. Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors. Responsible for all facilities-related operations at WashU Medicine. Operators monitor several different building automation software and three unique fire alarm software to support the 24/7 operation of researchers and campus community partners. Provides emergency response to A/BSL3 laboratories, vivariums, data centers, climate rooms, freezer farms, and other various campus assets. In the event of degraded infrastructure, functions as dispatch for Facilities Engineering skilled trades to support the timely repair of degraded building systems during off-shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors software, computer, telephone systems, and facilities terminology to support monitoring building automation and fire alarm systems on computer workstations, by interpreting technical trends and alarm data from operational technology.
  • Provides emergency response to A/BSL3 laboratories, vivariums, data centers, climate rooms, freezer farms, and other various campus assets.
  • Acts as the first responder to HVAC events, which may require manually resetting alarms, freeze stats, pressure switches, motor overloads, and performing equipment shutdowns. Changes temperature, humidity, and airflow set points as needed.
  • Triages service interruptions to responsible technicians, minimizing system/equipment downtime by documenting the impact and creating verbal and written work orders from internal and external callers. Must maintain excellent customer service at all times and be able to distinguish impact, protocols, and need for escalation.
  • Utilizes building automation logic to optimize 32 chillers in 9 chilled water plants to the most efficient configuration to best support the cooling demand across 26 central buildings, in alignment with overall campus carbon emissions reduction efforts, while minimizing electrical demand charges.
  • Conducts monthly inspections on elevator equipment rooms and performs Fire Recall testing to ensure proper operation in the event of an emergency.
  • Performs inspections on all campus Fire Suppression sprinkler systems to ensure proper alignment in the event of an emergency.
  • Provides data entry within multiple databases and systems supporting the Facilities Management department. This may include operational logs, work order requests, and updating equipment/inventory.
  • Supports continued construction and renovation efforts by facilitating the Hot-Work Permit process through reconfiguration of the Fire Alarm Automation systems.
  • Executes approved procedures for equipment operating outside of their designed parameters, to support sustained operations.
  • Responsible for creating and distributing service interruption notifications that impact our physical assets and infrastructure to responsible staff and campus partners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
