About The Position

Seeking an experienced Contract Surety Underwriting Leader to oversee a high-performing team, drive strategic growth, and shape underwriting excellence. This role is ideal for a seasoned surety professional who excels in relationship management, financial analysis, and team leadership. This position manages a team of underwriters, contributes to strategic planning, sets performance expectations, and leads talent selection and development. The ideal candidate combines technical surety expertise with strong leadership and a forward‑thinking, strategic mindset.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field — or equivalent relevant experience.
Minimum 10 years of contract surety underwriting experience , including at least 5 years in a leadership or management role .
Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, risk assessment, and relationship management.
Proven ability to lead teams, develop talent, and drive strategic initiatives.

Nice To Haves

Progress toward or completion of professional designations a plus, such as AFSB, CPCU, CPA, or RPLU.

Responsibilities

Analyze key business and financial reports essential to the underwriting process, including credit checks, bank agreements, and financial statements.
Evaluate risk quality and ensure decisions align with company underwriting guidelines.
Review and provide recommendations on underwriting submissions, including terms, conditions, and credit decisions.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
Deliver exceptional customer service through clear, effective communication.
Maintain strong organizational discipline while managing multiple priorities.
