About The Position

York County Community College (YCCC) is seeking a Contract Lead Instructor to deliver an accelerated, hands-on training program aligned with Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) shop fundamentals. This role prepares learners for entry into Marine Pipefitting and Marine Machine Mechanics careers through safety-driven, skills-based instruction. The ideal candidate brings Shipyard experience, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to train adult learners in a fast-paced, standards-driven environment.   • Experience in Marine Pipefitting, Marine Machinery, or Industrial Maintenance
  • Teaching, training, or mentoring experience (formal or informal)
  • Strong safety mindset and attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to adult learners

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction in Shipyard safety, tooling, blueprint reading, precision measurement, and mock-up training
  • Teach and assess PPE use, hazard identification, hot work, LOTO awareness, and ORM/JSA practices
  • Instruct learners in hand tools, shop tools, portable machining, and pneumatic tooling
  • Teach blueprint reading, GD&T basics, P&IDs, and Task Group Instructions (TGI)
  • Train learners on precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, gauges)
  • Lead hands-on mock-up activities including measurement, teardown, reassembly, and documentation
  • Reinforce safety culture, quality standards, and effective communication
