About The Position

The School of Engineering (SoE) seeks a highly motivated individual to work as a member of the SoE Dean's Research Support Office (RSO) to build a strong, competitive research program as part of the Faculty Research Development Network. The successful candidate will work to support the development of SoE proposals for external funding, assisting researchers in developing the non-technical portions of proposals. Core tasks for this position include the development and evaluation of budgets, budget justifications, the development of records in UNM’s research administration software, as well as agency submission portals and helping ensure that proposals address all sponsor-required criteria. The successful candidate will have effective problem-solving skills, be highly organized, detail oriented, work effectively as part of a team, and manage multiple activities with firm deadlines. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist investigators in all elements of pre-award grant and contract development, including:
  • Review and interpretation of funding guidelines and development of a “checklist” for the investigators’ use
  • Communication of and adherence to both internal and external deadlines
  • Proposal development and preparation, including completion of all internal forms, sponsor forms, budget development, document collection, and assistance with formatting when required and appropriate
  • Assistance with the development and routing of proposal submission documents for agency portals and UNM’s electronic research submission tool
  • Provide guidance to faculty on the UNM proposal submission process
  • Serve as the liaison between the PI and the Central Office of Sponsored Projects
  • Track all planned and pending grant and contract applications using the FRDO Reporting tool
