About The Position

The Continuous Improvement Engineer Intern will support operational excellence initiatives by identifying process inefficiencies, analyzing performance data, and helping implement sustainable improvements. This role provides hands-on experience with Lean methodologies, root cause problem-solving, standardization, and cross-functional project execution in a manufacturing and/or business operations environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement principles.
  • Coursework or project experience in process improvement or operations analysis.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and/or basic statistical methods.
  • Exposure to ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing KPIs.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in manufacturing or operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and documenting improvement opportunities across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Support Lean initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen events, visual management, and waste elimination.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze operational data to track process performance and trends.
  • Assist with root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, and Pareto analysis.
  • Help create and update standard work instructions, process maps, and training documentation.
  • Participate in action planning and follow-up activities to ensure improvement sustainability.
  • Support KPI reporting (e.g., OEE, scrap, downtime, throughput, lead time, on-time delivery).
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, EHS, and Engineering teams.
  • Prepare project summaries and presentation materials for leadership updates.
  • Complete additional CI-related tasks and special projects as assigned.
