About The Position

The Content Designer shapes strategic, meaningful, and user‑centered content that guides customers through Macy’s digital experiences. This role designs content as an integral part of the product experience, ensuring that every interaction across Macy’s site and app is clear, intuitive, and helpful. Partnering closely with UX designers, researchers, and product managers from discovery through launch, they define how content supports the overall user journey and business objectives. By combining customer insights, product understanding, and brand‑focused language, the role creates content that reduces friction, builds trust, and empowers customers to shop with confidence. At the core, the Content Designer demonstrates curiosity about how people think and behave and thrives in collaborative environments where thoughtful debate and iteration lead to better customer experiences.

Requirements

  • User‑centered content design: Designs clear, concise interface content that helps customers complete tasks easily and confidently across digital experiences.
  • End‑to-end journey thinking: Creates and optimizes content across the full customer journey, from discovery and product pages through checkout and post‑purchase flows.
  • UX and product fluency: Applies strong understanding of UX principles, digital product design, and user‑centered design processes to ensure content supports the overall experience.
  • Strategic content thinking: Develops content strategies that balance customer needs, business objectives, and brand voice while supporting product goals.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration: Partners effectively with product designers, product managers, researchers, and engineers throughout discovery, design, and launch.
  • Influence without authority: Advocates for content decisions and guides partners across functions without direct reporting lines.
  • Research‑driven decision making: Uses customer research, usability testing, analytics, and behavioral data to inform and iterate on content decisions.
  • Accessibility and inclusive design: Writes accessible, action‑oriented content that meets WCAG standards and supports assistive technologies.
  • Design system contribution: Contributes to and maintains content standards, terminology, and scalable patterns within design systems to ensure consistency.
  • AI‑enabled content creation: Leverages AI tools to accelerate ideation, drafting, testing, and iteration while maintaining quality and intent.
  • Detail‑oriented execution: Maintains high attention to detail across complex product experiences and high‑visibility customer interactions.
  • Agile delivery: Manages multiple projects simultaneously, adapts quickly to change, and delivers high‑quality work in fast‑paced, iterative environments.
  • Tool proficiency: Uses tools such as Figma, Jira, and Confluence to collaborate, document decisions, and support product workflows.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • 3–5 years of experience in content design, UX writing, or product content for digital experiences.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.

  • Partner with product designers, product managers, researchers, and engineers to integrate content into the product design process from discovery through launch.
  • Apply content design principles to simplify interactions and reduce friction.
  • Develop and execute content strategies that address customer needs while aligning with business goals and brand objectives.
  • Ensure content is accessible, action‑oriented, and easy to understand, meeting digital accessibility standards.
  • Use research insights, usability testing, and analytics to inform content decisions and continuously improve the customer experience.
  • Leverage AI tools in day‑to‑day content design work to accelerate ideation, drafting, and iteration.
  • Contribute to and maintain content standards, terminology, and design system guidelines to ensure consistency across Macy’s digital products.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
