The Johnson County’s District Attorney’s Office is looking for a qualified applicant to fill the position of Consumer Protection Investigator within the Investigations Unit. The position is located at 150 West Santa Fe Street, Olathe, KS 66061, and provides excellent benefits, including health insurance, wellness programs and discounts, retirement programs, and various other discount programs. Requirements

  • Associate degree in business, accounting, criminal justice, or relevant field
  • Three (3) years’ experience conducting law enforcement investigations
  • Law Enforcement Certification - CPOST, for a police or law enforcement officer, as defined by K.S.A. 74-5602
  • Knowledgeable in law enforcement/criminal justice information systems used in criminal investigation activities.
  • successfully pass a criminal history check
  • possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record are required
  • Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts moderately complex, professional-level civil investigations of Kansas Consumer Protection Act violations and Kansas Open Records/Open Meetings Act violations
  • Organizes and maintains consumer case files
  • Conducts moderately complex analysis of financial and regulatory documents
  • Conducts interviews
  • Generates reports and case summaries
  • Prepares cases for litigation
  • Mediates resolutions between consumers and businesses
  • Drafts and serves subpoenas
  • Provides investigative support, technical training and guidance to attorneys, other investigators and support staff.
  • Works in cooperation with other government and law enforcement agencies and organizations
  • Prepares confidential reports for use as work product in the evaluation and prosecution of consumer protection cases
  • Testifies in court
  • Maintains and secures evidence.
  • Participates in community outreach
  • Conducts presentations and training on consumer protection related topics to the public and other agencies
  • Establishes and maintains contacts in government and private sector agencies
  • Responds to hotline callers and assists with walk-in complainants.
