In 1952, seven Reynolds Metals employees deposited $5 each with the idea of starting a credit union that was member-owned and member-focused. The Consumer Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the credit union’s consumer lending support functions. This role ensures efficient and compliant processing of consumer loans, including system management, title and insurance tracking, and workflow optimization. You will lead a team of Consumer Lending Processors and Specialists, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accuracy, timeliness, and member service. This position plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence and supporting strategic lending initiatives under the direction of the VP of Consumer Lending.

Requirements

  • Five to eight years of experience in the Financial Services industry with a background in consumer lending
  • Excellent with time management, decision making, organizational and presentation skills
  • Proficient in problem solving, able to make sound, logical decisions
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability and flexibility to respond in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with spreadsheets

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall Consumer Lending Operations and consumer lending operations staff.
  • Knowledge of all functions performed and offered by Consumer Lending.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all consumer loan products and rates, both within the credit union and from the overall industry
  • Manage daily operations of consumer lending support functions, ensuring timely and accurate loan processing.
  • Maintain a cohesive, highly trained, and motivated staff sufficient to meet daily department demands
  • Supervise and develop Consumer Lending Processors and Loan Operations Specialist; participate in performance evaluations
  • Oversee loan system configuration, maintenance, and updates in coordination with IT and vendors.
  • Ensure proper tracking and management of vehicle titles, insurance documentation, and collateral records.
  • Monitor workflow efficiency and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and member experience.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, servicing, and branch teams to resolve operational issues and improve service delivery.
  • Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Prepare and analyze operational reports to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support audits and examinations by providing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on consumer lending operations and system capabilities.
  • Ensure quality and conformation to underwriting standards, workflow, and consumer lending quality control efforts.
  • Read and understand all sections of the Listerhill Policy Manual with emphasis on loan policies
  • Ensure that all department employees are initiating and processing loans per LCU’s policies and procedures as well as federal laws and guidelines
  • Understand and adhere to a working knowledge of the lending requirements of NCUA, the State of Alabama and other states in which the credit union makes loans, and other applicable related regulations
  • Oversee and evaluate products and procedures currently in place and collaborate with the VP of Consumer Lending to implement changes as needed
  • Work with outside vendors to meet credit union needs
  • Ensure that all approved consumer loans comply with established policies and regulations
  • Develop recommendations for cost efficiencies and enhancements to products, pricing, and processes by monitoring trends in operations
  • Research new and/or improved processes and work with Project Management to initiate any changes by including stakeholders in the development and implementation of operational procedures.
  • Monitor third party vendor enhancements and ensure any changes are tested with core system and other systems before launched.
